Dear participants in ISA 2018:

On behalf of the members of the Local Organizing Committee of ISA 2018, please allow me to assure you that we understand the concern caused by the earthquake that struck central Mexico this week affecting the states of Puebla and Morelos, as well as Mexico City. However, it is important for you to know that the venue of ISA 2018 is in Mérida, on the Yucatan Peninsula, which is located a thousand kilometers away from the quake zone (the distance from Madrid to Paris). In fact, this peninsula that is a limestone platform, has no tectonic plates, nor fault lines running nearby so there is no way to experience an earthquake there.

For your tranquility, please feel free to bookmark the internet address below where you can monitor the Yucatan seismograph in real time.

In terms of travel, you may wish to consider booking a flight that goes directly to international airports in Mérida or Cancún, so you don’t have to pass through Mexico City, but this may not be necessary.

Please feel free to contact us at any time with your doubts or questions. The LOC will be glad to help in any way we can.

Best regards,

José Luis Ruvalcaba Sil

President
